About Me
Artist Statement
My name is Emma Crowe, and I’m a multimedia artist originally from Lima. During my time as an undergraduate at Bowling Green State University, I cultivated my multimedia experience to create environment-enhancing art. My journey has been broad, working with a variety of mediums such as ceramics, oils, acrylics, watercolor, drawing, fibers, and wood. Over the past two years, I’ve embraced these experiences to develop a unique style that showcases my talents and ideas.
My creative process usually starts with a single object, idea, or material. I map out my early thoughts through diagrams, which allow me to trace relationships and patterns found within my concept. To further explore, I test the concept by engaging with communities and groups of people—lively conversations can help shape the concept by developing a tone around the art. The tone created through discussions with the community can influence the color palette, lighting, size, and material of my work. From there, I create sketches based on the connections I’ve explored, guiding me in bringing the project to life.
As humans, our personal experiences can divide us, but I’m fascinated by the cultural overlaps that connect us. By incorporating familiar elements into my work, I hope to create a welcoming atmosphere that allows viewers to escape a mundane idea into something more creative. Ultimately, I want my art to inspire reflection on personal experiences, emotions, and connections, celebrating the nuances of the human experience.
My experience
I studied various mediums before realizing I wanted to make experiential art. Yet, the idea of taking something common and reinventing it has always been relevant, even in my earliest works.
My vision
My goal is to make the mundane feel questioned. I want the viewers to explore common iconography and stereotypes in a new way!
